Educating the Educators: Development of Early Childhood Training Programs

IASWECE, working together with other partner organizations such as the Freunde der Erziehungskunst, provides pedagogical and financial support for the development of Waldorf early childhood training programs in a number of countries around the world.

Support from IASWECE allows visiting faculty members and experienced Waldorf early childhood educators from abroad to offer training courses, workshops and mentoring. Such training programs provide the foundations through which Waldorf kindergartens, child care centers and early years education may develop and flourish in ways that are unique to each particular area or culture and yet are working out of an anthroposophical view of the developing child.

Responsibility for the courses is carried by those who are active in a particular location, with support and assistance from visiting faculty and advisors.

In 2007, we are providing colleagial and/or financial support for early childhood training programs being developed in Bulgaria, China, the Czech Republic, Ethiopia, Hungary, Kenya, Kirgistan, Korea, Lithuania, Romania, Russia, South Africa, South America, and Ukraine. These projects are described in the following pages.

Collaboration Among Early Childhood Educators

The International Association also provides support for collaboration within countries, allowing Waldorf kindergarten teachers and early childhood educators to travel – often long distances – to get to know and support each other, by attending meetings, workshops, conferences and professional development courses. In 2007, we are providing support for travel to and within Africa, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Hungary, Nepal, the Philippines, Russia, Taiwan, and Uruguay.

IASWECE also raises funds in order to provide travel support funds for international conferences, so that participants from many countries are able to attend.
