In 2002 the association "Friends of Waldorf Education" was founded as the carrier of the Waldorf initiative in Sophia. In the years 2004 - 2007, a teacher training course for kindergarten and class teachers was held once a year for four weeks.

In 2007 the first kindergarten working on the basis of the principles of Waldorf education was founded in Sophia, with a group of 14 children. A College was formed of five teachers, some of whom attended a Waldorf teacher training abroad and / or other courses and seminars. Everyone could visit various kindergartens in Germany and Spain.

One year before the founding of the kindergarten, the teachers worked regularly with Welitschka Yordanova on anthroposophical principles. The inauguration ceremony took place in 2007. In 2009 a baby care center was added to the existing kindergarten class and the groups moved into a bigger building.

Since 2008, weeklong training courses are held once or twice a year for teachers and parents. Courses in anthroposophical foundations and the implementation of Waldorf education are taught by several foreign teachers.

In the meantime the first children are now ready for school, so the call for a Waldorf school is getting louder, and a school founding initiative is active.
